Richard Tonge

Executive summary

Richard is a Principal in our New York Human Capital Services practice and leads the Global Mobility Services practice in the United States. He has significant experience advising clients from start-ups to large privately held and listed multinational companies on the tax and social security issues for businesses with internationally mobile employees.

Working across a range of industries, he consults across the spectrum of mobility, from assignment, mobility and tax policy, program management, international compensation and employment taxes issues, through hybrid work and emerging modes of mobility.

Richard has more than 17 years of experience advising clients in different stages of growth and international expansion. He has managed large assignee programs, having designed and redeveloped international assignment and tax policies and processes for businesses in industries from financial services, technology to consumer products. He has designed and redeveloped international mobility, assignment and tax policies as well as processes across the mobility lifecycle and global compensation.

Richard has advised extensively on the emerging remote and hybrid working trends, supporting companies navigate the tax complexities and develop and implement effective policies. He leads the firm's hybrid workforce and business traveler tax analytics offering. Richard is a frequent commentator on global workforce issues impacting multinational employers, from mobility trends to hybrid workforce, having contributed to the Financial Times, Law360, Bloomberg and the Tax Executives Institute (TEI) as well as Grant Thornton publications.
